Anwar convicted of sodomy

A court in Malaysia has convicted the opposition leader, Anwar Ibrahim, on charges of sodomy, overturning his acquittal on the same charges two years ago.
The court ruled that Mr Anwar had intercourse with his male aide in 2008 which is a criminal offence under Malaysian law.

Mr Anwar's supporters said the accusations had been politically motivated and were aimed at destroying his career.

His lawyers are expected to appeal against the ruling at Malaysia's highest court.
