Seoul urges retraction of Takeshima official

South Korea is demanding that Japan retract its plan to send a Cabinet Office parliamentary secretary to the Takeshima Day ceremony on February 22nd.

South Korea's Foreign Ministry made the demand on Friday to a senior official of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul.

A ministry official says South Korea will not tolerate what it calls two straight years of provocation by Japan.

US Secretary of State John Kerry said on Thursday that the two neighbors should focus on the threat from North Korea. He urged South Korea to make concessions over historical issues.
