Japanese runner completes trek across Australia

A Japanese runner has completed an epic 5,200-kiolomter trek across Australia.

Katsuhiko Takashige set off from Perth on Australia's west coast in September. He run pushing a 3-wheeled buggy loaded with food and necessities.

Cheered by supporters, Takashige reached the Sydney Opera House, his final destination, early on Monday afternoon.

It took him 5-and-a-half months to make the journey across the continent.

One of Takashige's purposes for the run was to raise relief funds for survivors of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan. He raised about 1,400 US dollars for the cause.

Takashige says that he himself donates about 10 cents per every kilometer that he runs.

He expressed his gratitude to Australians, saying people across the country supported him during the run.
