Chinese in Malaysia has H7N9 bird flu

Doctors in Malaysia have established a Chinese tourist to the country is infected with the H7N9 bird flu.

Malaysia's Health Ministry says the 67-year-old woman is from China's southern province of Guangdong.

She arrived in Malaysia on February 3rd. Four days later she was admitted to a hospital in Kota Kinabalu on the island of Borneo after complaining of a fever and cough. Doctors established on Tuesday she had the disease.

Human infection with H7N9 virus has been proliferating mainly in eastern and southern China. More than 190 people have been infected this year, exceeding the total for last year.

This is the first time that Malaysia has had an H7N9 infection. The nation's health officials are stepping up measures to prevent the disease from spreading.
