Car bomb kills 13 police officers in Pakistan

A car bomb has left 13 police officers dead and more than 50 wounded in southern Pakistan. The attack comes as the country's government and the Islamic group the Pakistani Taliban are engaged in peace talks.

A vehicle exploded on Thursday as a bus carrying police officers passed by. The bus had just left a training complex in Pakistan's largest city of Karachi.

The Pakistani Taliban issued a statement claiming responsibility for the assault. It said the attack is retaliation for the police killing its innocent members across the nation.

The Pakistani Taliban and the nation's government opened peace negotiations this month. But the Islamic group says it will continue strikes on the military and police.
