10 killed in S.Korea by roof collapse

In a South Korean resort town, 10 people were killed and more than 100 others injured when the snow-covered roof of a gymnasium collapsed.

The fatal accident occurred on Monday night at the Manua Ocean Resort in the southern city of Gyeongju.

More than 500 students of the Busan University of Foreign Studies were taking part in a welcoming ceremony for freshmen.

South Korean authorities confirmed on Tuesday that 10 people had been killed and 103 others had been injured.

Last week's heavy snowfall piled on the roof is believed to have caused the fatal collapse, but the exact cause has not been determined.

Authorities plan to investigate if there were structural problems with the collapsed roof or if shoddy construction was a factor.
